Lae F.C. (Papua New Guinea)
The club was founded in 2013 and entered the 2014 NSL season under coach Peter Gunemba. In its only campaign, Lae F.C. recovered from a heavy opening-day loss to local rivals Morobe FC and finished third in the regular season standings behind Hekari United and Oro FC. It then defeated Oro 3–2 in the semi-final to reach the Grand Final against dominant champions Hekari United.
The final was abandoned with about 20 minutes remaining and the score at 3–0 to Hekari after crowd violence broke out (including stones thrown at the Hekari goalkeeper). Hekari were subsequently awarded the title. Ahead of the following season, the club faced a potential fine for bringing the game into disrepute. It was dissolved shortly afterwards in 2014. Several of its players and management staff went on to help form the new franchise Lae City Dwellers (later known as Lae City).
Many other sides have withdrawn temporarily due to sponsorship issues, league splits, or financial problems (for example, early versions of Madang FC were once reported as defunct before returning), but Lae F.C. existed for only a single season before permanent dissolution.
