El Jaish SC (Qatar)
Founded in 2007 (with some sources noting formal establishment around 2011 under the Qatari Armed Forces), the club was based in Doha and represented the military. It rose quickly through the ranks, winning promotion and establishing itself as a competitive top-flight side. El Jaish won the Qatari League Cup (Stars Cup) in 2012–13 and finished as runners-up in the Qatar Stars League in 2013–14 and again in 2016–17. It also qualified for AFC continental competitions during its brief but successful stint.
In April 2017, the Qatar Football Association approved a merger between El Jaish and Lekhwiya SC (a police-backed club, formerly Al-Shorta). The combined entity became Al-Duhail SC, which began competing in the 2017–18 season. El Jaish was fully disbanded by July 2017, with its players, staff, and assets absorbed into the new club. Al-Duhail has since become one of Qatar’s strongest teams, winning multiple league titles.
Earlier in Qatari football history, several clubs were also dissolved as part of league restructuring. In the 1960s, Al-Maref (a Ministry of Education side) was dissolved, with its players redistributed. In 1990, second-division clubs Al Nasr, Al Tadamon, and Al Nahda were dissolved by the Qatar Football Association, and their players moved to first-division teams. Other historical mergers (such as those forming Al-Arabi and Qatar SC in the early 1970s) similarly ended independent existences of predecessor clubs.
