AS Établissements Merill (Djibouti)
It holds a unique place in the country’s football history as the first-ever champions of the Djibouti Premier League (Championnat National de la 1ère Division) when the competition was founded in 1987.
Very little detailed information survives about the club beyond its pioneering title. Like many early Djiboutian sides, it appears to have been linked to a commercial or institutional sponsor (the name refers to “Établissements Merill,” suggesting a local business or company team). After its 1987 success, the club faded from the top flight and eventually ceased to exist as an independent entity. Sources describing the league’s early history note that several of the first champions, including AS Établissements Merill and the 1991 winners Aéroport (AS Aéroport), are now defunct or were absorbed into other clubs.
