Al Shabab (UAE)
Founded in 1958 (with some sources noting formal establishment around 1974 under related names), Al Shabab was one of Dubai’s historic clubs. It played its home matches at the Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium (capacity around 12,000). The club earned the nickname associated with its competitive identity and built a solid record in domestic and regional competitions.
Key achievements included three UAE Pro League titles (1989–90, 1994–95, and 2007–08), four UAE President’s Cups (1980–81, 1989–90, 1993–94, and 1996–97), one UAE League Cup (2010–11), and three GCC Champions League titles (1992, 2011, and 2015). It also reached the semi-finals of the Asian Club Championship in 1991 and participated in the AFC Champions League on multiple occasions.
In May 2017, by decree of the Ruler of Dubai, Al Shabab merged with Dubai CSC (another Dubai-based club founded in 1996) and joined Al Ahli Dubai. The combined entity was rebranded as Shabab Al Ahli Dubai FC (often called Shabab Al Ahli). This effectively ended Al Shabab’s independent existence, absorbing its history, players, and assets into the new club. A similar merger occurred in Sharjah that year, dissolving Al Shaab into Sharjah FC.
These 2017 consolidations were part of efforts to strengthen UAE clubs administratively and competitively.
