Founded on September 25th, 1878, with their first kit having being all black with a skull and crossbones on the front of it.
The club played its first Welsh Cup game in 1878 but lost to Fiars School, Bangor, 1-0. Although the town of Rhyl was all that big, there were other football clubs from there, including Rhyl Grosyenor FC, who Rhyl FC had played before. However, before the start of the 1879 season, it was decided that the two would join together, but keep the name Rhyl FC.
1890 came, and so did the founding of the Welsh League, which Rhyl FC was one of the founding members of. However, they didn't last long and left only a year later. They also changed their club colours to red and black and changed their name to Rhyl Athleitc in November 1892.
The then became the founding member of the Wales North West Coast League. Once again, they found themselves joining forces with another Rhyl based side, Rhyl Town .
In 1898, Rhyl switched to the Anglo-Welsh competition, the Conbination, and remained there until 1910 when the league was disbanded.
Another name change followed, and they were known as Rhyl United, playing in the North Wales Coast League once again. But for the third time in their history, they became founding members of yet another League. This time, the Welsh National League (North) in 1921.
Not content with this League either, in 1929, they attempted to join the Football League but were rejected. After trying once more to join the Football League and fail, they eventually joined the Birmingham and District League in 1932.
That lasted four years, and in 1936, the club joined the Chesire County League. This seemed to be the catalyst that Rhyl were looking for as they won the league title twice in 1947-48 and 1950-51 and won the Welsh Cup twice in 1952 and 1953, beating Merthyr Tydfil and Chester City in both finals.
They also competed in the FA Cup, starting in 1948. After bouncing around leagues as Rhyl did throughout their history, they finally joined the newly formed League of Wales in 1992. However, things didn't go according to plan, as their late application meant they couldn't compete in the top tier in its first season, and so they were placed in the second tier.
Rhyl won promotion in their first season and eventually made it to the League of Wales.
But it wouldn't be until the 2003-04 season when Rhyl would win the Welsh Premier League for the first time. It was the best year in the clubs history as they won the treble, as long with the league title, they also won the Welsh Cup and League Cup.
They also made their first appearance in European competition, but lost out to Latvian club Skonto Riga, 7-1, on aggragate.
They made many more appearances in Europe, qualifying by finishing runners up in the Welsh League of Welsh Cup. It wasn't until 2009 that they would win the Welsh Premier Lsague for the second time. But it was the off the field antics that were making the headlines.
After managerial changes, which didn't work out, only a year after lifting the Welsh Premier League title, it was announced on May 17th, 2010, that the clubs Welsh Premier League license had been revoked.
It meant they would have to play in the second tier... and that's what they did. But it wouldn't be until the 2012-13 season why Rhyl, who went unbeaten all season, would finally gain promotion and return to the Weslh Premier League. Things were looking a lot better for the Lolywhites as they were known.
Despite big sponsorship deals and being back in the Welsh Premier Division, things did not kick on for Rhyl.
April 20th, 2020, the club announced it would cease all trading and be wound up. The dept amount was £175,000 and despite efforts to retrieve it, they couldn't.
The COVID-19 pandemic also didn't help matters, and the writing was on the wall.
October 5th, 2021, the Rhyl we knew ceased to exist.
