🇪🇨 Manta Sport Club (Ecuador)

Manta Sport Club (Ecuador)

Manta Sport Club (also known as Manta Sport) was a historic Ecuadorian football club from Manta, in the province of Manabí, that is now a Forgotten Football Club.

Founded in 1915, it ranks among the older clubs in Ecuadorian football. It represented the coastal city of Manta and participated in local and regional competitions for decades before rising to national prominence.

The club enjoyed its most notable period in the Serie A (Ecuador's top division), competing in 10 seasons between 1967 and 1985. It faced established powerhouses like Barcelona SC, Emelec, and teams from Quito, holding its own as one of the representatives from Manabí province during an era when coastal clubs often challenged the traditional dominance of the highlands.

Like many smaller Ecuadorian clubs, Manta Sport struggled with financial sustainability and administrative issues. It faded from the professional scene and officially disappeared in 1997.

By then, newer teams from Manta (such as Delfín Sporting Club, which remains active) had emerged to carry the city's football torch.
