🇬🇾 Thomas United Football Club (Guyana)

Thomas United Football Club (Guyana)

Thomas United Football Club (TUFC), also known simply as Thomas United, is a Forgotten Football Club from Georgetown, Guyana.

It was founded on April 1, 1960, originally as Continental FC by a teacher named Mr. Johnson at the Thomas Lands YMCA in Kingston, Georgetown.

It is considered one of Guyana's oldest clubs—often cited as the second-oldest in the capital after Georgetown FC (founded in 1902).

The club had modest but notable success at the domestic level:
Winning two regional League titles,(Georgetown Regional League: 1987 and 1993/94).and one Mayors Cup: in 2000/01.
.
It represented Guyana in CONCACAF competitions three times (1971, 1976, and 1978), though it never advanced past the first round.

Football in Guyana has long taken a backseat to cricket, the national sport, leading to chronic financial struggles for most clubs. Support came mainly from corporate sponsorships (often just naming rights) and limited government aid.

Serious problems arose around 1999 due to involvement (or association) in an electoral fraud scandal related to the Guyana Football Federation presidency.

This led to sanctions and the club falling into inactivity. While it occasionally resurfaced in lower or masters-level play in later years, it has remained largely dormant as a professional or senior competitive entity.
