🇲🇩 FC Dacia Chișinău (Moldova)

FC Dacia Chișinău FC (Moldova)

FC Dacia Chișinău (full name: Fotbal Club Dacia Chișinău) was one of the more prominent Moldovan football clubs of the 2000s and 2010s, however theor tome ended in 2018.

The club were founded in 1999 in Chișinău by a group including Marin Livadaru and others.

The club's name referenced the ancient Dacian civilization, tying into regional history. It rose quickly from the second tier (Divizia A) and became a consistent challenger to the dominant Sheriff Tiraspol.

The won the Moldovan National Division (top tier) once, in the 2010–11 season, finishing unbeaten in the latter part of the campaign and 9 points clear of Sheriff). They were runners-up seven times (2007–08, 2008–09, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17).

They also made multiple finals appearances, however they finished runners-up several times, never lifting their domestic cup

The club competed in UEFA Champions League qualifiers (e.g., 2011–12) and numerous UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup and Intertoto Cup campaigns.

A few notable results included advancing past teams like Celje and Renova, but they were often eliminated by stronger sides (e.g., Schalke 04, Hamburg, MŠK Žilina).

Dacia developed a rivalry with fellow Chișinău club Zimbru and invested in youth structures (including a reserve team link with what became Dacia Buiucani, which continues today).

Financial difficulties led to withdrawal from the Divizia Națională in 2018. Like many clubs in smaller leagues, sustaining competitiveness against well-funded sides (especially Sheriff) proved challenging amid limited resources.
