Deportivo Universidad Cat贸lica Madre y Maestra (Dominican Republic)
It was founded in 1971 as the representative team of the Universidad Cat贸lica Madre y Maestra (a major private university in Santiago). In the early 1970s it quickly became the dominant side in Dominican football, winning the Campeonato Nacional (the top amateur national championship) three consecutive times in 1972, 1973, and 1974.
The club played its home matches at a modest field in Santiago with a capacity of around 1,000. It also competed internationally in the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup: in 1973 it was heavily defeated by Surinamese side SV Transvaal (0–6 and 0–8), and in 1975 it was due to face Santos but was disqualified.
UCMM disappeared in 1975. That year the Dominican Football Federation prohibited university and other academic institution teams from participating in its official league and cup competitions. As a result, UCMM and similar university-linked clubs were forced to dissolve or withdraw from national competition.
This was typical of the pre-professional era of Dominican football (which remained largely amateur until the creation of the professional Liga Dominicana de F煤tbol in 2015). Many early clubs were tied to institutions, communities, or sponsors and often proved short-lived. Other historical sides that faded include the original San Crist贸bal FC (dissolved in 2014 amid the shift to professionalism, later succeeded by Atl茅tico San Crist贸bal), La Romana CF (also dissolved around 2014), and various older amateur champions such as Bancredicard, Casa de Espa帽a, and Baninter.
