🇬🇩 Carenage FC (Grenada)

Carenage FC (Grenada)

Carenage FC (also referred to as Carenage SC or earlier as Carenage United), based in St. George’s, Grenada, was one of the leading clubs in Grenadian football during the 1970s and 1980s. It won the national championship in 1986 and is cited among the more successful sides of that era.

Grenadian club football has long been community- and parish-based, with many teams tied to specific neighborhoods or villages.

Records of early competitions are incomplete (a formal league existed from the 1920s, but detailed champions lists begin more reliably in the 1960s). Carenage FC stood out as a competitive force in the top flight before gradually fading from national prominence. It is no longer active in organized Grenada Football Association (GFA) competitions at any level.

The modern GFA Premier League is dominated by longer-surviving or better-supported clubs such as Paradise FC International, Hurricanes SC, Hard Rock FC, Queens Park Rangers, and St. John’s Sports. Many smaller community clubs from earlier decades have disappeared due to limited resources, organizational challenges, and the small scale of professional/semi-professional football on the island (where cricket remains more popular overall).
