Formed in 1893 via merger of earlier local clubs (Bathgate Rovers and Bathgate Athletic), Bathgate FC from Bathgate, West Lothian, entered the SFL in 1921 (Third Division era) and lasted until around 1928–29 (some sources note resignation or non-re-election in 1930).
They won the Third Division South in 1928–29 but couldn't sustain higher status. Economic pressures led to winding up in the early 1930s after stepping down to regional leagues. A junior phoenix, Bathgate Thistle (formed 1937), now plays in the East of Scotland League at Creamery Park.
