Amman Sports Club (Jordan)
Founded in 1976, it is one of the more notable defunct clubs in Jordanian football history.
The club rose quickly in the 1980s. Its peak came in the 1984 Jordan League (then the top division), when it won the national championship—the only league title in its history and one of the rarer triumphs outside the traditional powerhouses of Al-Faisaly and Al-Wehdat. That success also earned it a place in the 1985–86 Asian Club Championship.
It additionally won the Jordan FA Shield twice (1984 and 1985). Players associated with the club in its strong period included Ibrahim Saadia (a top scorer in the league around that era), Mohammed Al-Sabah, Aref Awfi, and Samer Barakat.
Amman remained competitive in the top flight for a few more seasons but was relegated at the end of the 1988 campaign and never returned to the highest level.
After relegation, the club struggled and eventually folded. Exact details on the final years are limited, but financial difficulties—common in Jordanian football, where many clubs have faced debt and limited commercial revenue—contributed to its disappearance from competitive football. Lists of Jordanian clubs consistently classify Amman SC as defunct. (Note that a separate modern Amman FC exists, formed later through a 2021 merger involving Dar Al-Dawa, and is unrelated to the original 1976 club.)
