Zwekapin United FC (Myanmar)

Zwekapin United F.C. (also spelled Zwegabin United) was a professional football club based in Hpa-An, Kayin State (southeastern Myanmar), that competed in the Myanmar National League (MNL) from 2010 until it was disbanded in 2020.

Nicknamed “The Mountaineers,” the club was founded in 2010 and joined the inaugural professional era of Myanmar’s top flight. It played home matches primarily at Hpa-An Stadium (also known as Aung Than Lwin Stadium; capacity about 3,000), though it sometimes used venues in Yangon when the home ground was not fully approved for league play. Owner U Hla Htay oversaw the side.

The club spent its entire senior existence in the MNL (top division). Early seasons were difficult (11th in 2010 and bottom in 2011–12), but it gradually stabilized in mid-table. Its best finish came in 2018 (3rd place with 40 points from 22 matches). Other notable seasons included 6th in 2015 and consistent 8th-place finishes in several years. It never won a major domestic title but reached the quarter-finals of the domestic cup on occasion.

In June 2020, amid severe financial difficulties worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, Zwekapin United (along with Chin United) withdrew from the MNL. Their results from the interrupted 2020 season were annulled, and the club ceased senior-team operations. This reduced the league’s size temporarily. The men’s team has not returned to competitive play. A women’s team under the same name has been active more recently (including in the Myanmar Women’s Football League).
