Sierra Fisheries FC (Sierra Leone)
It rose to prominence in the late 1970s/early 1980s after businessman Jamil Sahid Mohamed (a Lebanese-Sierra Leonean tycoon) took over a newly promoted second-division side (linked to the Republicans/Kingtom area) and rebranded it after his fishing company. The club quickly became competitive in the national league.
Key achievements included winning the Sierra Leone National Premier League (or equivalent national championship) in 1982 and 1987. It also competed in African club competitions during that era. The side was known for strong performances and contributed players to the national team (Leone Stars).
In 2000–2001, Sierra Leone international striker Mohamed Kallon acquired the club (after it had faced sponsorship and ownership challenges). It was renamed FC Kallon (or Kallon FC) after him. Under the new name and ownership, it continued successfully, winning the Premier League in 2006 and participating in CAF competitions. The original Sierra Fisheries identity effectively ended with the takeover and rebranding.
Sierra Leone football history includes other transformed or faded clubs due to civil war disruptions (1991–2002), financial issues, ownership changes, and league instability (including seasons abandoned due to Ebola or COVID-19).
