Nakambala Leopards (Zambia)
The club had a notable history in Zambian football and competed in the Super League (the top division). It was sponsored by Zambia Sugar. After relegation from the Super League, the club was due to play in the National Division One. However, the sponsors indicated they were only willing to support the team at the district level, not in national competitions.
Nakambala Leopards informed the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) that they would not continue in the National Division One. This led to their deregistration, ending the club’s participation in organized national football. FAZ officials described the outcome as regrettable, noting the club’s history, while Zambia Sugar shifted focus toward developing an academy with the longer-term goal of building a side capable of returning to the Super League.
Nakambala Leopards’ demise left Mazabuka without a senior national-league representative and stands as a relatively recent example of how sponsorship dependency can lead to a club’s complete disappearance from the competitive landscape.
