Italia de Tunis (Tunisia)
It was founded by members of the Italian community living in Tunisia during the French protectorate era. The club’s colors were red and white, and it competed in the top levels of Tunisian football under colonial administration.
Italia de Tunis enjoyed significant success in the interwar period and beyond. It won the Tunisian championship four times (1931–32, 1934–35, 1935–36, and 1936–37). It is also remembered as the only Tunisian club to win the Coupe d’Afrique du Nord (North African Cup) and the only one to reach the final stages (“carré d’or”) of that regional competition.
Following Tunisia’s independence on 20 March 1956, a major reorganization of national football took place. Clubs closely associated with colonial communities—particularly those linked to French or Italian expatriates—were dissolved. Italia de Tunis was among those that disappeared at this time.
