🇲🇺 FC Dodo (Mauritius)

FC Dodo (Mauritius)

FC Dodo (also known as Dodo Club or Dodo FC), based in Curepipe, was one of Mauritius’s most successful and historic football clubs before it dissolved in 1978.

The club was established around 1930 (some records list it among the early organized teams in Curepipe). It was a founding member of the Mauritius Sports Association (later the Mauritius Football Association) in 1952, alongside clubs such as Faucon Flacq SC, CSC, Hounds, Royal College of Curepipe, and Saint Joseph College. Most of those early Curepipe-based sides have also long since ceased to exist.

FC Dodo represented the Franco-Mauritian community in an era when Mauritian football was organized largely along ethnic and communal lines.

It was one of the dominant forces in the Mauritian Premier League (founded 1935). FC Dodo won a joint-record 13 league titles, with its last championship coming in 1968. This places it level with Fire Brigade SC as the most successful club in the competition’s history by titles.

The club was a regular contender for domestic honors during the mid-20th century and helped shape the early competitive landscape of Mauritian football.

FC Dodo withdrew from football and was dissolved in 1978. Like several other traditional clubs of that era (including Hounds and aspects of the old Faucon structure), it disappeared amid broader changes in Mauritian sport. Later reforms, particularly the major restructuring of the league after the 1999 riots (which led to the “regionalization” of clubs and the end of ethnically based teams), further transformed the domestic game and contributed to the loss of many historic sides.
