🇱🇸 Arsenal Maseru (Lesotho)

Arsenal Maseru (Lesotho)

Arsenal Football Club (commonly known as Arsenal Maseru) was a successful Lesotho football club based in the capital, Maseru.

Founded in 1983, it was named after the English club Arsenal FC and became one of the stronger sides in the Lesotho Premier League during the late 1980s and 1990s.

Arsenal Maseru won the
Lesotho Premier League title three times (1989, 1991, 1993) and the
Lesotho Cup (Independence Cup) three times as well. (1989, 1991, 1998).

They made Continental appearances in the African Cup of Champions Clubs (reaching the second round in 1990) and other CAF competitions in the early-to-mid 1990s.

The club competed at the top level for many years and represented Lesotho in African club competitions. It was relegated from the Premier League after the 2005–06 season and subsequently dropped to lower divisions (reported as second or third tier in later years).

While not always listed as fully dissolved in every record, Arsenal Maseru has long since ceased to be a competitive force at the highest levels and is effectively defunct as a top-flight or prominent club. Lesotho football has seen many sides decline or disappear due to limited resources, reliance on institutional or limited sponsorship, and the dominance of enduring teams such as Matlama FC, Lioli FC, Bantu FC, and institutional clubs like Lesotho Defence Force and Lesotho Correctional Services.
