Freeport R.F.C (Bahamas)
Founded in 1965 in Freeport on Grand Bahama island, it originally started as the Democratic Republic of Freeport Rugby Football Club. It later shifted focus significantly toward soccer (association football) while maintaining rugby activities. It became one of the oldest and most successful soccer teams on Grand Bahama, with the island's organized soccer league beginning around its activities.
The club peaked in the mid-1990s:
Won the 1995–96 Bahamas National Championship (the precursor to the modern unified league) by defeating JS Johnson United 3–0 in the final.
It also secured titles in the Grand Bahama Football League.
This made it one of the few Grand Bahama-based teams to claim national honors during an era when the league structure involved playoffs between winners of the New Providence and Grand Bahama regional leagues.
Following the 2008 merger of the New Providence Football League and Grand Bahama Football League into the single BFA Senior League, participation became challenging for outer-island clubs due to high inter-island travel costs and logistics. Freeport RFC ceased involvement in the senior national competition around this time.
The club remains active today primarily in rugby, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025–2026 with community events. Its football program has largely faded from the top tier, though it may still field lower-level or recreational teams locally. It no longer competes in the BFA Senior League, making its senior football side effectively defunct at the national level.
