🇳🇱 FC Wageningen (full name: Football Club Wageningen) were based in the university town of Wageningen in Gelderland.
Founded on August 27, 1911, it was dissolved on June 30, 1992, after declaring bankruptcy.
Despite being from a relatively small town, FC Wageningen carved out a respectable niche in Dutch football.
They played at the Wageningse Berg stadium (capacity ~6,800) and were known for their resilience in the lower-to-mid professional tiers.
The club won the KNVB Cup twice. in 1939. defeating PSV in the final, and 1948, beating ASC De Volewijckers on this occasion.
The club competed in the professional leagues from 1954 onward, mostly in the Eerste Divisie (second tier), with occasional pushes toward promotion.
FC Wageningen were one of the original clubs when professional football was formalized in the Netherlands in the 1950s and stayed professional for nearly four decades.
But persistent financial difficulties, typical for smaller clubs without big sponsorships or large fanbases, culminated in bankruptcy for the club.
In 1992, with outstanding tax debts (around 150,000 guilders), the club was declared bankrupt by a court in Arnhem.
Their final professional match was a 2–1 home win over NAC Breda in May 1992. The professional entity folded, and per KNVB rules, they were removed from the league.
The amateur branch continued and still exists today as WVV Wageningen (or sometimes referred to in connection with GVC Wageningen), playing in lower amateur leagues.
