Founded in 1990, shortly after Armenia's independence from the Soviet Union. The club represented the local community and competed in Armenia's domestic leagues (including the Premier League and lower divisions) during the 1990s.
Like many smaller Armenian clubs in the post-Soviet era, it faced severe financial difficulties, infrastructure challenges, and economic instability.
The club was dissolved in 1999 and did not participate in subsequent seasons. It left a modest legacy tied to local football in Spitak, a town notably affected by the devastating 1988 earthquake.
FC Spitak is a typical example of the challenges faced by smaller provincial clubs in the early years of the independent Armenian league system.
