Founded in1989 in Andorra la Vella by the *Penya Madridista Restaurant Charlie's (a Real Madrid supporters' club).
It quickly became a dominant force in Andorran football, especially after the launch of the professional Primera Divisió in 1995.
The club achieved notable success with three consecutive league titles (1996–97, 1997–98, 1998–99) and five straight Copa Constitució wins (1994–95 to 1998–99).
It remained in the top flight until the 2013–14 season, when it finished 8th and was relegated. The senior team then withdrew from the Segunda Divisió shortly after.
CE Principat made history as the first Andorran club to participate in UEFA competitions. It qualified for the UEFA Cup three times but suffered heavy defeats in the qualifying rounds losing to Dundee United (Scotland) — 0–8 home, 0–9 away (0–17 aggregate) in 1997-98 season and to Ferencváros (Hungary) — 1–8 home, 0–6 away (1–14 aggregate) in the 1998-99 season.
In the 1999–2000 edition they were knocked out by Viking FK (Norway) — 0–11 home, 0–7 away (0–18 aggregate).
These results left the club with a record of 6 losses and 48 goals conceded in Europe.
After 1999, the club's dominance faded. It occasionally reached cup semifinals and placed as high as 3rd in the league (2008–09), but never reclaimed the titles. Lower teams continued for a while, but the club was not registered for any national competitions by 2015 and is considered dissolved.
