🇳🇦 Young Ones FC (Namibia)

Young Ones FC (Namibia)

Young Ones FC (also known as Young Ones Football Club) was a Namibian football club based in Windhoek’s Khomasdal suburb that is now defunct. It was founded in 1972 and effectively disappeared around 2011 due to financial problems (a later team using the same name is not considered a direct continuation).

The club was established in 1972 by a group of young players from Ella Du Plessis High School in Khomasdal who were frustrated by limited opportunities at established local sides. It started in the lower divisions of the Central Football League and earned promotion to the elite level by 1983.

Young Ones became known for an attractive, competitive style of play. Its colors were red and white, and it was nicknamed the “Burros” or “Rojos.”

The club’s peak came in the late 1980s and early 1990s:
Winner of the prestigious Mainstay Cup in 1988.

The winners of the Metropolis Life Cup in 1988 (and previously in 1986).
Winner of the Castle Cup Classic in 1990.

They made two consecutive NFA Cup final appearances in 1992 and 1993.
Participation in the CAF Cup on two occasions (reaching the second round in one campaign).

It was a founding member of the post-independence Namibia Premier League and competed at the top level for many years. Notable players associated with the club include former national team members such as Floris Diergaardt (youth) and long-serving striker Henrico Botes.

Young Ones was relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2002–03 season. After roughly a decade in the second tier, it dropped further to the third-tier Namibia Second Division by 2012. Persistent financial difficulties led to the original club’s disappearance around 2011.
