Al-Shorta Aden (Yemen)

Al-Shorta Aden (also known as Al-Shurta or Police Club Aden) was a football club based in Aden, South Yemen, that competed in the South Yemeni League before becoming defunct after Yemen’s unification in 1990.

It was one of several Aden-based teams that featured prominently in the South Yemeni Football League (the top division of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, which ran from the 1970s until 1990). Al-Shorta won the South Yemeni League title in the 1983–84 season.

Like many smaller or institutional clubs from the south (including sides such as Shamsan SC, Al-Hassan, Al-Jaish, Diwan, and others), Al-Shorta did not continue as an independent entity in the unified Yemeni League that was created after North and South Yemen merged on 22 May 1990. Post-unification restructuring, combined with financial and organizational challenges, led to the dissolution or absorption of numerous southern clubs as the focus shifted to a single national competition.

Yemen’s football landscape has long been affected by political division (pre-1990), economic constraints, and the ongoing civil war (which suspended the national league for years after 2014). As a result, detailed records of many defunct clubs are sparse, and several historic southern teams from the South Yemeni League era simply ceased operations.
