🇬🇷 Veria F.C. (Greece)

Veria F.C. (also known as G.A.S. Veria) was a Greek football club based in Veria, in the Imathia region of northern Greece (Macedonia).

Nicknamed the "Queen of the North" (Vasílissa tou Vorrá) and the "Blue-Reds" (Rossoblù), it was founded on 12 September 1960 through the merger of two local teams, Hermes and Vermion, to create a stronger, unified club for the area.

The club quickly rose through the ranks. It first reached the second division (Beta Ethniki) in the early 1960s and earned promotion to the top flight (Alpha Ethniki) in 1966–67 after strong performances in the lower tiers.  It earned its "Queen of the North" nickname for this breakthrough.

Veria had several stints in Greece's top division over the decades, including the late 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

Their best league finish was joint 7th in the 1985–86 season. They achieved notable wins against big clubs like Olympiacos, AEK Athens, and PAOK. In the 1990s, they had a solid period, including a 10th-place finish and upsets over champions Olympiacos.

They returned to the Super League multiple times (e.g., 2007–08, 2012–13). Under owner George Arvanitidis and later Theodoros Karipidis, they signed notable players like Pantelis Kafes, Carlo Costly, Miljan Mrdaković, and others. They stayed competitive mid-table in some seasons but faced frequent relegations and financial struggles.

The club played home matches at Veria Stadium (capacity around 7,000). It had rivalries with local teams like Naoussa and experienced highs like winning the Amateurs' Cup in the early 2000s.

Veria suffered from chronic financial problems, mismanagement, points deductions, and off-field issues (including match-fixing allegations, which the club was eventually cleared of). In the 2017–18 season, heavy debts led to withdrawal from the league. The club was formally dissolved in 2018 and relegated to amateur levels as a result.

A successor club, Veria NFC (or Veria 1960), was founded shortly afterward and continues to represent the city in lower divisions, preserving some of the legacy and community ties.
